Watched all three hours of Solaris (Tarkovsky, 1972) with my grandmother after everyone had either left or gone to sleep on xmas eve.

I wasn't going to go to xmas in the first place but I am glad that I did. Hope you all had a fine time with you and yours.

[mood |distressed]

can't sleep. cluttering your friendslist with a boring nonsense list of shit i need to get/do.

get:
_ cardboard moving boxes
_ 30gal trash bags
_ industrial strength cleaning supplies
_ a job

do:
_ donate or dispose of every utterly nonessential item in my apartment
_ box up everything i decide to keep that isn't records or baseball prospectus 2008
_ clean every inch of apartment
_ not be such a lazy slob

there's a good chance i'm going to be discarding a ton of books + records + cd's in the next month. there's plenty of records that are salable, and i'll have a complete list (possibly an ebay thing) within the week.

RE: CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS PROPOSAL

SIR/MADAM,

I AM MAKING THIS CONTACT ON BEHALF OF THE BODY POLITIC, THE FEATURED DJ, TYREL WILLIAMS, NOT MINDING THE CONSEQUENCES, BUT HOPING THAT YOU WOULD UNDERSTAND OUR AWESOME PARTY HENCE THE NEED FOR YOUR URGENT ASSISTANCE AND CO-OPERATION.

I AM PRINCE ISA AHMED THE YOUNGER BROTHER TO FEATURED DJ TYREL WILLIAMS OF GRAMAPHONE RECORDS. WE GOT YOUR CONTACT WHILE GOING THROUGH HIS LIBRARY OF JACKING TECHNO AND HOUSE RECORDS AND HOPE THAT YOU CAN GIVE US ADEQUATE ASSISTANCE.

MY AIM OF CONTACTING YOU IS TO SEEK YOUR ASSISTANCE IN THROWING AN AWESOME PARTY E AND POUNDING 4/4 BASS INTO YOUR TRUSTED BANK ACCOUNT ABROAD. THESE TUNES WERE PART OF THE FUNK, WHICH WAS FOUND IN FEATURED DJ TYREL WILLIAMS' PRIVATE ROOM. IMMEDIATELY AFTER HIS SUDDEN AWESOMENESS LAST YEAR AND HE QUICKLY INFORMED ME, SINCE I VIRTUALLY RUN MOST OF HIS SECRET FUNK HERE IN NIGERIA AND OVERSEAS, AS HE HAS A LOT OF CONFIDENCE IN ME AND FORTUNATELY WITH MY IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE, AND CONTACT WE WERE ABLE TO DEPOSIT THE JACK IN A SECURITY VAULT PENDING WHEN THE WHOLE SITUATION WILL BE POPPING OFF TOMORROW NIGHT WEDNESDAY APRIL 2ND @ TUMBAO 3213 W. ARMITAGE, LOGAN SQUARE.

PRESENTLY, ALL THE FAMILY JACK ACCOUNTS ABROAD WERE FROZEN BY OUR FORMER HEAD OF STATE GENERAL ABDUSALAMI ABUBAKAR BECAUSE OF ALLEGED DEEP BASS AND DOPE TRACKS. BUT FORTUNATELY FOR US, THE BODY POLITIC, WE ARE NOW IN A DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT, AND THIS IS OUR OPPORTUNITY TO REMOVE THE JACK OUT OF NIGERIA, WE ARE WILLING TO GIVE YOU 30% OF THE FUNK AFTER THE TRANSACTION FOR YOUR CO-OPERATION. ALL I NEED FROM YOU IS AN ASSURANCE THAT YOU CAN HANDLE THE AMOUNT OF SIQNESS INVOLVED COMFORTABLY AND ALSO I CAN TRUST YOU WITH THIS VERY DEEP ARRANGEMENT.

I REST ASSURED THAT THERE IS NO RISK INVOLVED SINCE I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THE BASSBINS?

I WANT YOU TO IMMEDIATELY INFORM ME OF YOUR WILLINGNESS IN ASSISTING / CO-OPERATING / PARTYING WITH US ON MY E-MAIL ADDRESS SO THAT I CAN SEND YOU FULL DETAILS OF THIS DOPE DOPE PARTY AND LET MAKE ARRANGEMENT FOR A NIGHT OF DJSDRINKSANDFUN AND DISCUSS AT LENGTH ON HOW TO TRANSFER THE SAID FUNK. FINALLY, I AM TRUSTING ON YOUR FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE ABOVE AND HOPING THAT YOU UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR ABSOLUTE CONFIDENTIALITY. AWAITING WITH INTEREST YOUR RESPONSE AND HOPING TO DEVELOP GOOD PARTY RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU.

YOURS FAITHFULLY,

PRINCE ISA AHMED + THE BODY POLITIC DJ'S: CAVALRY, STEVE MIZEK, AND JAMES KARTSAKLIS

[music |james lauer's "diversified portfolio" mix from wnur / lunar eclipse night 08]

ever read those lj "writer's block" things? mine today was "what's your greatest accomplishment? what was the journey to get there like?" something along those lines. reads like a resume prep, if i've ever seen one; how fitting.

the world is in a really bizarre state of massive change. that, on its surface, appears to be a cynical view of the world, which i fully understand. it is more cynical, however, to refute that by saying "oh, that's what everyone's said, through all time." i can understand why someone would say that, but i also think it's totally ignorant.

i refuse to back up those above claims at this point in time, on this internet.

somewhat related:
i don't know if there is a community center in chicago that truly and totally reaches out to "at-risk" youth (insert your own pejorative, disparaging adjective for kids who are, plainly and bluntly, born into poor families and beaten-down neighborhoods if you dislike "at-risk" as much as i do). i know there are a few (av-aerie is one, and i don't mean to disparage the work they do any more than i mean to disparage the poor) and guides them in the education and discovery of electronic music composition, production, programming, etc, but i really hope there is, and if not, i'd like to help start one. mike huckaby has a clinic/education foundation for kids that teaches Reaktor (i think it's sponsored by native instruments) up in detroit, and i think that could be just the start.

i imagine a center with donated computers, gear purchased with grant money / sponsorships, and after-school programs for kids. a rotating staff of interested parties, people who had the fortunate experience of discovering electronic music + composition at an early age and want to help guide others through that same sense of discovery, to help foster what could be a life-long love affair with this music, an endless outlet for the imagination, a spiritual fulfillment of peace.

just a thought.

i think there's enough surprises in here to warrant at least one listen. cheezy jazz, huge percussions, beardo synth, disco house, deep house, and minimal techno all together in a somewhat coherent mix (i think!).
so, have one listen and tell me what you think, even if you hate it.

all tracks purchased @
Beatport
, even the ones i already have on vinyl (thanks primarily to Gramaphone Records).

everybody's doing it

+ giving one of these to caitlin with some rad tunes on it
- the above being a cardboard tape enclosure, not a true "memory-stick-inside-a-plastic-cassette-that you plug into your computer," which would be bulky and obnoxious but somehow more awesome.
+ the buddha machine, the camera, the print, and the book caitlin gave me
+ giving caitlin a pair of earrings that made her get all weepy because it was such a sweet gift
+/- my family is crazy, i should write a book about it
+ picking up john pawson's minimum at b&n yesterday for much cheaper than it can be found online (how rare is that?)
- not getting the henri cartier-bresson scrap book for xmas, not finding it anywhere, it being expensive
+ an ok writing outlet coming down the line
- nobody wants to pay anyone for anything that isn't legit work, even if it feels like legit work
-/+ considering going back to school for something entirely different than what i studied in undergrad, but something i still won't get paid a lot of money for
+ buying music
- people who don't buy music have so many more opinions on music than i do, and they blog about it all the time
+ the robert babicz show @ vision last week, and my friends for coming with me even if they weren't totally sold on him prior to going
- the underwhelming crowd and expensive drinks @ the robert babicz show @ vision last week
+ making so many tunes
- not feeling "ready" to try and get them published just yet, not being sure how i'd want to even do that in the first place
